Some volunteers, escaped from France by sea: either
from Brittany, or through Spain and the camp of Miranda (of evil
repute) and, presented themselves in Great Britain. Many came from
units based in North Africa. The majority though came from the
occupied zone and had had to pass the German checkpoints, in
particular the line of demarcation, which divided France in two. All
knew how to behave in occupied France.
